Audrey Boccara
Film Director | Choreographer | Dancer
Originally from France, Audrey began her professional dance journey at the esteemed Paris Opera Ballet School in 2007. She later graduated with Honours from the National Superior Conservatory for Music & Dance in Paris, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Dance.
In 2014, Audrey brought her artistry to Canada, where she danced in Montréal for a year before joining Atlantic Ballet of Canada for two seasons. In 2017, she moved to Alberta to perform with Ballet Edmonton, where she also debuted as a choreographer with works like Ave Maria (2018) and Holiday in Red (2019). Her diverse repertoire expanded further when she joined the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers in 2020, performing as a soloist in The Nutcracker and touring extensively.
Audrey’s exploration of interdisciplinary art forms began in 2021, when she received support from the Edmonton Arts Council to merge ballet and aerial dance. Her captivating works, including White Swan and Carmen, have since graced stages with renowned companies such as Cirque de la Nuit, Mile Zero Dance, and SkirtsAFire. Known as "The Aerial Ballerina," Audrey has redefined the boundaries of dance and circus arts, including her celebrated White Swan aerial hoop act at the Alberta Circus Arts Festival in June 2024.
Audrey’s passion for filmmaking emerged in 2022 with her debut project, A Zakarpattian Cypher, where she served as both choreographer and film director for Shumka’s Emerge, with the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers. This sparked a new creative journey, leading to the premiere of The Acrylic Dancer at Mile Zero Dance’s Reeling: Dance on Screen Festival in 2023, followed by PAPILLONS, presented with Alberta Ballet later that year. Each film highlights her vision for blending the language of dance with cinematic storytelling.
