Event by Springboard Performance

In a fictional Vietnam, echoes of cassette pop intertwine with modern Vietnamese rap, as Châu Kim-Sanh transforms under neon lights. Amid the evening's purplish hues—“bầu trời màu tím xẩm,” an uncertain translation—she reconnects with her ancestral land. Saigon’s neon glow, common across South Asia, merges embodied memory and imagination. Riding a Honda Dream II through humid skies, her solo unfolds entirely from the squat posture, a quintessentially Asian stance. Audio recordings punctuate the performance, navigating nostalgia, language loss, and sexual objectification—shared struggles among Asian diasporas. In Southeast Asia, rap thrives, giving voice to silenced populations. Alongside Laotian collaborator Chittakone Baccam, Kim-Sanh’s journey becomes a shared quest for lost homelands. Here, rap transcends genre, emerging as a prayer.
