Event by Art Gallery of Alberta
Join us on August 10 for a special spotlight on dance! We will be screening two iconic films exploring the work of important contemporary choreographers.
We will be screening both films in our Ledcor Theatre and will be joined by our community partner Mile Zero Dance who will introduce the films.
Watch either film for $10 or both for $25. Members to the AGA are 25% off. We are celebrating dance as part of public programming for our current exhibition Dance Party.
6pm | Cunningham (2019, 133 Minutes)
The iconic Merce Cunningham and the last generation of his dance company is stunningly profiled in Alla Kovgan's documentary, through recreations of his landmark works and archival footage of Cunningham, John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg.
8pm | Pina (2011, 109 Minutes)
Directed by Wim Wenders, Pina is a tribute to German dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch. On June 30, 2009, during the preparation for the film, Bausch died unexpectedly. While Wenders cancelled the project, the dancers of Bausch's company (Tanztheater Wuppertal) convinced him to proceed as planned to memorialize Bausch and some of her choreography.
